Top Arroyo aide wants ‘Da Vinci Code’ banned in RPFrom a far flung barrio perspective and the limited sources i get i can only guess, and i believe this statement of Ermita is of the same purpose as that of GMA's saving those death row convincts from the needle... that is to win, most especially perhaps, the heart of the Catholic church, through cajoling and charming their royal pft

CATHOLICS and other groups calling for a ban in local theaters of the Hollywood film “The Da Vinci Code” found an ally in Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita. “I think we should do everything not to allow it to be shown,” Ermita told reporters in a news briefing Wednesday.
Expressing his personal view on the movie, Ermita said the Philippine board of censors “should be able to take a look at their guidelines on whether such a movie with such a storyline should be allowed to be shown in the Philippines.”
Starring Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks, the film is an adaptation of Dan Brown’s best-selling book that says Jesus Christ married Mary Magdalene and started a sacred blood line that still exists in secret.
The book has triggered intense debate among Christian scholars, some of whom say the story line is blasphemous. Ermita, a former member of the board of censors during the martial law period, said he has yet to read the book, but branded the movie as “blasphemous.”
“I don’t see how we as a Catholic nation or as practicing Catholics would ever tolerate such a plot to be propagated in the name of freedom of expression,” he said.
Archbishop Ramon Arguelles, a senior leader of the dominant Roman Catholic church in the Philippines has already launched a campaign to have the film banned, ahead of its planned opening across Asia on May 18.
In 1988 the government banned screenings of “The Last Temptation of Christ.”
i remember Ermita last night saying 'the movie will open the curiosity of our young people' or something to that effect, i dint realize young filipinos today are too stupid and gullible to the point that their natural gift of curiosity becomes a burden and hindrance to their personal growth?! mental and spiritual growth that is. so what now? would they want to throw to jail anyone who would be found guilty of 'being curious'? well, that wouldn't come as a surpise for that's what they've been doing and the only thing i think they know how to do ever since the EO 464 and PP 1017 etc, suppresing all the essential means and tools of the people that could prove harmful to GMA's stay in power, or overstay in power. so if you're still curious bout the tapes, forget about it
This move against Da Vinci COde is all for the wrong reasons as much as the Cha2x train's reasons, but that's another story. The administration needs all the support they can get, as far as i can recall, from GMA's pampering the AFP soldiers to GMA's alluring everyone to join in the Economic boost parade with GMA as lead majorette, or the only majorette, a sinking ship and they're trying to drown everyone with them
What has gotten into the administration? i don't know , all i know is that they're too obvious i just don't get it why it's so easy for the people to ignore them. Acting as though everyone is too stupid and gullible that they can't cease to keep on firing every little trial balloons they could, pushing their limits just to see how far their tactics will bring them and at the same time making sure they can get away from any declaration or procalamtion or whatever, safely. they seem to feel they're invulnerable
but the hell with Ermita. when's the premiere of Da Vinci?

i heard na most of the more predominant catholic countries have already allowed da vinci to be shown. madami lng kasi gusto mag grandstanding, parang nakiki papel lng na ewan.
di ko parin alam kung in favor ba ko o hinde sa death penalty pero it just bothers me na a couple of years ago ata she was insistent about death penalty and even uses this to threaten criminals. yun naalala ko. well i could be wrong- sana nga para at least sincere tlga yung paniniwala niya bout capital punishment.
