Lost Generation

comment on The lost Generation sa PCIJ read
(hindi ko pinost dun kasi di ko maintindihan ang english nila . huhu ) How can we even think of considering our generation as a "High tech generation?" Benigno made an absolutely obvious point by asking how many of us Filipinos actually have access to the internet and these technologies. Obviously, very few and according to another comment, only 9 percent actually has access to the net. And that is a very small percentaeg. And how many of these people who have access are actually using the internet to its optimum capacity? Try to enter an internet cafĂ©, and it’s either the so-called “young people” are busy updating their friendster accounts, chatting, downloading Mp3’s, playing RPG’s or Generals (im guilty) , copy pasting their assignments, venerating their movie and tv idols for hours, listening to MTV’s, or are just plain stuck on google.com. Most of the people and most especially the young, don’t use the internet to learn them, but to use them because hey, internet is easy to use. There's no attempt in trying to learn the mechanics and know-how of these technologies, what more innovate them, perhaps maybe because we simply don’t make them. I do not believe that we have become more incommunicative and apathetic to our society because of these technologies, because only a few have them or have access to them and it has little effect to even how they spend time with their family or society, simply because most does not have that much money to sulk themselves in the internet or to their cellphones (except pag unlimited) the entire day. And it’s not that everyone has their own laptops or blogs, and it’s not that we have the most sophisticated and advanced computers and cell phones, perhaps in the cities they are available, but only available to the upperclass who can afford them. The truth maybe is majority of us doesn’t even have the time and most importantly the money to avail of these technologies because most of us are busy trying to find money so we can feed our families. I suppose we’re far from being a technologically advanced country and we may be the “texting” capital of the world but does that doesn’t mean we are the most advanced in the field. maybe we are just incommunicative and apathetic only and only because we have become blunt to our situation, that we are tired and hopeless of this poor nation becoming poorer and poorer. That this generation has learned a very good lesson not to do and be what the old generation has done and become, because they have failed us and are continually doing so. That this generation have seen and experienced the worst and are just preparing themselves, for worse things to come. Simply put, many has lost hope and wants to get away as far as possible.

yes, sadly very few filipinos have access to the internet. as far as i know, only ten percent of our population have computers at home.

i agree. having resources does not translate to higher intelligence quotient. but not having a computer these days can mean being left behind. some of us know how it works, some of us know just how to use it. (i belong to the latter, simply because using a computer is necessary in my line of work)

either way, sana lahat ng schools merong computer.

i agree. and dapat hindi tayo masyadong bilib sa technology natin kasi hindi naman talaga tayo angat sa larangang yan.

kulang pa. dapat pang mag pursigi. just as in any other field... dehado na tayo. haay
