Where are we headed to? Is there really a Filipino culture that we can truly call our own? Did we really achieve the liberation and independence that we are so proud of, that we are the first Asian nation to be decolonized from western conquering nations? Or are we too young a nation, too young a people, that we haven't achieved yet, true liberation and independence from all foreign influence? True independence, I believe will only exists if a culture, a nation is allowed to go about its evolution and reformation independently, to define itself, culturally, politically and spiritually, and as a true and molding people, a defining people. Free from any outside influence nor assistance whatsoever. Remembering the main ideals and reasons of the revolution, was it achieved? was true liberation achieved? or are we heading to the wrong direction? Is it enough to just remember the revolution as part of the past? Is our nation molding itself in line with the principles and visions of our nations heroes, especially Rizal? Or our actions and attitudes today contradicts and even denounce the true reasons of the revolution? We are too immersed in our belief that the revolution, the decolonization of our nation is the most important part of our history as a nation, it was a triumphant past, it was a celebrated victory againsts the mother land. It is our independence day. But again, was that supposed to be the end? was it the end of the revolution? is it enough to just integrate the revolution only as part of our History subjects in our academe? To remember it, only as a past event and with no relevance to our present? I believe this is not the case. I believe that a nations history, the struggles of our people, are lessons of our past, we must see history in a perspective where in we learn from it and apply what we have learned into our present. To continue the visions of the people responsible for our liberation. To imbibe the true nationalistic values and aspirations of our katipuneros in our hearts. In our actions and in our mind, and grow as a molding people, to define ourselves to who we really are. An evolving nation, a true culture, a true Filipino. And only through this, we can achieve true liberation and independence. And when achieved, can put an end to the nation's ultimate struggle for freedom. How well do you know your being a "Filipino"? Again, with what we are today, our attitudes, ideals, and aspirations, are we headed to the right direction? the way to true independence? into a true Nation of "Filipinos"? Is this what our nation's heroes envisioned our country to be? or are you going to let them down even more?
