Another Issue that I always find most intriguing is the issue of the use of the English Language instead of our native Tagalog in many areas of concern, no actually not many, but certainly in most cases. Our constitution is in English, our Education system uses English as the primary mode of teaching. We even teach the PI (rizals life's and work) subject using English. Almost all of our books is in English, you look around and see the signs on the streets, on the walls, on the pavement, on the ceiling, in the bathrooms--- damn, everything is in English. Even this article is in English! wow. Is this not enough proof of the ever growing plaque of the "Americanization" of our people? Is this not enough proof for us to come to the realization that this is not the right way into liberation? our independence? (previous post) Our molding into a TRUE and Genuine Filipino? into defining and innovating the collective consciousness of our people into a state which we can truly call our own? I have nothing against the English Language in particular, but i think it is high time for the nation to give this issue a second thought. Because we are still an evolving nation, searching for identity. Our identity is too delicate, too unstable and too confused. We must, as much as we can liberate ourselves from the prejudices and limitations that we impose on ourselves, who we are now is the product of our many struggles against our colonizers, not the subordinates of these foreign nations. We fought to liberate ourselves from them, physically, politically and psychologically. This is where our mindset should be derived from. We must see ourselves on a new and higher perspective, a timely consiousness of Nationalism and Patriotism, unbiased and clear. You see, we were already a People, a nation, an evolving and surviving people, long before the arrival of the Spaniards. We could have had the previlage of independent evolution, just like Japan or the other Asian countries who are now blessed with the beauties and riches of their customs, traditions and Identity. We cannot go on the same path that they took , but we can take our own and make our own path to where we are destined to be. Have you seen the tv program where in Filipino children are speaking in English, while they talk about the carabaos and the taho and balot and all things Filipino? honestly, i want to puke everytim I see that.... sorry im late for my Engl114 class--- :) got to run.
